For pain that won't end...you need care that won't quit

Technology to help pinpoint pain, weakness and numbness:

Action PM&R offers a full range of treatment to help eradicate physical conditions and impairments.  It's part of our commitment to provide the best care possible.  We have the latest and best equipment available to help diagnose and treat our patient's physical problems.

Our medical staff performs electrodiagnostic studies to identify diseases of the nerves and muscles.  These studies can be helpful in evaluating symptoms such as muscle weakness, numbness and pain.  They can identify disease processes involving the nerves, muscles, nerve-muscle junction or spinal cord.  Techniques and technology options include electromyography, electro-acuscope/myopulse, fibromyalgia trigger-point injections and Current Perception Threshold (CPT) testing.

Electromyography (EMG) entails the use of a thin wire electrode, which is inserted into a muscle.  This serves as an antenna, which records the muscle's electrical activity.  Nerve cells transmit messages via electrical impulses, which stimulate the muscle to move.   When nerves are pinched or injured, or if the muscles are diseased, the normal electrical patterns change.
Ask us about Current Perception Threshold sensory testing for pinched nerves, carpal tunnel syndrome and peripheral neuropathy.  This technique is virtually painless.

The Electro-Acuscope Myopulse Therapy System, used in conjunction with MATRIX bioelectric stimulation, reduces pain and increases range of motion.  This form of therapy does not heal anything, but rather initiates the healing process by increasing normality in the soft tissue, so the body can heal itself.  It treats by introducing a gentle electrical current similar to the body's own.  This increases the electrical activity of the affected tissue so that cells can begin the work of self-repair.  Reported case studies show increases in healing time by as much as 50%.

Fibromyalgia Trigger-Point Injection Therapy involves the use of anti-inflammatories or steroids injected into myofascial trigger points, or tender areas within a taut band of muscle, which can give referred pain to other areas of the body.  By reducing the inflammation and breaking the cycle of pain, a patient is able to return to a more productive, pain-free life.
